The Porcine Pardon: Hog Named 6-7 Pardoned by Miami Dade County Leader.
It might not have been at the identical stature as sparing holiday birds, but the Miami-Dade County mayor experienced a presidential-style act this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. She is worthy of this pardon. No offenses are on her docket,” stated the mayor in a speech with inescapable allusions to the vast quantity of executive clemencies issued from the start of the commencement of a current administration.
“Unless you count eating half a dozen apples per day,” the mayor added. “May this pig enjoy a long and happy life free from concern.”
The gathering, which both honors and questions the area's customary feast of feasting on pork during the holidays, was established to mirror the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The pig, contributed by a Coral Gables firefighter, was christened after the current slang trend of young people shouting “six-seven” – inspired by a musical verse – often seemingly at random. The phrase became so ubiquitous that a leading lexicon site recently named “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.
A Future Secured
The pardoned swine is now destined to live out its days at a rural sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“The annual pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to begin the end-of-year celebrations,” said the cafe owner, in a notably cheerful message.
“It captures the character of Miami: joyful, diverse, and grounded in customs that unite the community. Every time, we are honored to observe culture and compassion in a way unique to Miami.”
Attendees enjoyed a vegetarian menu of croquettes and cafecito as they toasted the swine's new lease on life.
