Trump Calls Relatives of Attacked Guard Members to White House
President Donald Trump stated on Sunday that he has asked the relatives of a Guard member tragically killed last week to visit the White House.
He noted that he spoke to her parents and they were “deeply grieving”.
Details on the Heartbreaking Shooting
US army specialist Beckstrom, 20, was killed in a attack on Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her fellow service member, Andrew Wolfe, 24, is still in the hospital in critical condition.
Memorials across the state have been held in their remembrance.
White House Invitation
The commander-in-chief stated he’s discussed a White House visit for the parents of both members of the West Virginia Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a difficult moment, come to the White House. We’re going to honor Sarah,” Trump addressed reporters. “And similarly with Andrew, whether he recovers or not.”
Community Support
Community members came together over the weekend at the high school in the state to honor Beckstrom.
Both they had been working with the military unit as part of Trump’s federal initiative to aid policing efforts in DC.
Remembering Beckstrom
“Sarah was the kind of student that teachers wished for. She conducted herself with inner fortitude, a warm expression and a optimistic attitude that encouraged people around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the leader of Beckstrom’s alma mater, informed the Associated Press. “She was sweet, compassionate and always ready to help others.”
Memorial details for Sarah are still being arranged.
Judicial Actions and Policy Revisions
Authorities have accused a 29-year-old individual from Afghanistan with one count of murder and two counts of attempted murder while carrying a weapon.
The tragedy caused the government to halt asylum applications and cease issuing visas to owners of passports from Afghanistan.
Status of Wolfe
The airman, a resident of Martinsburg, began his service in February 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman High, according to the Associated Press.
He remains under medical supervision and is “in a critical fight”, the state’s governor Morrisey said on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.
The state’s top lawyer Pam Bondi stated on the program that she aimed to meet with the family.
Impact of Sarah Beckstrom
Beckstrom, from Summersville, completed her education from her high school in June 2023 and joined the military shortly after, serving as a MP with excellence, according to the state guard.
“She had a lot of kindness and she definitely had fortitude,” he informed the gathering at the memorial. “Though her life was cut short, she has left a mark that’s going to last forever.”
